Yes, this is U-Shi-!
Have you ever been to a shrine where you can see a spectacular view?
This time, I would like to introduce a shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu, where you can see a path of light.
A straight path of light must be a spectacular sight, right?
I would like to know what kind of path of light it is, wouldn’t you?
I will introduce it in detail from now on, so please read to the end.
Introduction of Shrines
The shrine introduced in this article is called Miyajigoku Shrine, located in Fukuoka Prefecture.
At certain times of the year, the path leading to the shrine is enveloped in light, creating a spectacular view of a path of light.
The shrine became famous a few years ago when a major corporation used the path of light seen from the shrine in a commercial, and tourists from all over Japan now visit the shrine when the path of light is visible.
The shrine is also famous for the path of light, but it also has two other attractive elements. Let us explain each of them in detail.
The Three Best in Japan
There are three things that are best in Japan at this shrine.
They are the size of the bell, the taiko drum, and the shimenawa (sacred straw rope) at Miyajigoku Shrine.
The bell is made of copper and weighs 450 kg. The taiko is 2.2 meters in diameter, the largest taiko in Japan made from materials procured in Japan.
Lastly, there is the shimenawa (sacred rope). It is 2.6 meters in diameter, 11 meters long, and weighs a whopping 3 tons.
All of these items can be seen, so be sure to experience their size when you visit.
Visiting Power Spots
There are eight Okunomiya shrines, which are said to be power spots that, if you visit them all, will grant you a great wish. Visit each of the eight shrines to enhance your luck. It takes only about 30 minutes to visit all eight shrines, so it is easy to visit them.
Now that I have digressed, I would like to delve deeper into the Path of Light.
Why is it called the Path of Light?
It is because when the setting sun sets on the island at the end of the approach to the shrine, the path becomes like a shining path.
This path of light can be seen only when various conditions are met.
If the weather or the time of year is off, the path of light cannot be seen.
It is such a spectacular sight that can only be seen under the right conditions.
When the Path of Light can be seen
There are only two times a year when this spectacular view can be seen.
The first is at the end of February and the second is at the end of October.
The sun must set in the direction of the approach from the shrine to the sea in order for the path of light to be visible, which is why it can only be seen at these times of the year.
I went to photograph the Path of Light
I went to Miyajigoku Shrine to photograph the Path of Light in late November.
The weather was fine and I was in a groove.
I took on the challenge of shooting in such a condition.
Here is the video I was able to take this time.
To be honest, I feel I could have taken a better video.
This time the weather was nice and there were so many people that I could not take a video in a very nice place.
I also did not know information about this shrine.
That is the information that the stairs where you can see the path of light are blocked off when the time for the path of light to appear is near.
And it seemed that people who lined up early on the road to the left of the stairs leading to the shrine could enter and get a position of their choice.
I was at the shrine quite early and did not know this, so I was late in line.
I was quite shocked.
Next time I will get my revenge.
Lastly
I hope you have enjoyed my introduction to Miyajigoku Shrine so far.
It was a shrine with many interesting elements.
I would like to see the beautiful path of light at least once in my life. If you are planning to visit Fukuoka Prefecture in February or November, why not include Miyajigoku Shrine in your sightseeing route? You may be able to see a spectacular view.
